2 out of 5 stars Eat it or leave it   October 30, 2008
Stinkey K. (Los Angeles)
If you chewed on this book it might be more inspiring than it is as a read. Wow! You mean that encouraging students, giving them homework, and having them reflect on their lessons actually has beneficial effects? I'm shocked! It's a good thing that these notions are presented with lots of proof from academic studies with lots of scientific graphs, or I would never believe them. Sheesh. Of course there are some good suggestions but they are not presented very well, so unless you can relate to some of the ideas already they probably won't leave much of an impression on you. There has to be better books out there.

1 out of 5 stars Barely literate   August 11, 2008

This is the sort of book that makes one despair of education academics. It is barely literate, most of its points are obvious, and it has little that will help you in the classroom. I'd recommend Frames of Mind or even Rookie Teaching for Dummies over this book.

Excellent read for people in the educational field. Wonderful strategies and techniques to use in the classroom.

5 out of 5 stars A Real Winner for Teachers Dedicated to Self-Improvement   July 31, 2008

This book, for the reflective teacher, is a tremendous tool to help guide teachers toward constructing meaningful lessons that promote real learning. The book provides solid strategies to support teachers in their efforts to go beyond "covering" material to teaching content for learning in ways that are both measurable and meaningful.

This is a real "teacher's handbook."
