UGH! June 25, 2010 J. R. Buck Let me first say that I am a huge fan of Star Trek. That said I really wanted to love this game, or even just like this game. The controls are horrendous. The ships turn like aircraft carriers, while this may be realistic for the Trek universe it's not fun at all. It's one thing if you are fighting one on one, now then it's better, because you and the other ship are jockeying for position to take each other out, but in the first three levels (as far as I got) you face maybe 6 or seven romulan ships at once. So your targeting one ship, getting in position then another ship gets in your line of sight, okay so I cycle through the targets, yes you cycle through, not automatically target, and by the time you have done that the ship is no longer in your sights, and your ship is heading away from the battle, so I slow down, turn my ship and two minutes later, I am back trying to aim at ships again. I also got to the point where I just stopped my ship all together, so I only had to worry about targeting ships and not flying and turning. So then I am just pushing the phaser and photon buttons over and over again until I kill them, how fun is just punching buttons while you watch ships fly around. Did I also mention that you have to protect something in every level? Yes, in addition to fighting and flying, you have to make sure that the base, or ships you are protecting are also not destroyed. You also have multiple ships to switch between and repairs to set up because the ships crews can't repair themselves. The fact that you have to pick what to repair was another annoying thing. I have damage to my sheilds and only my sheilds, yet i HAVE to tell the ship to repair, nothing else is damaged and I have to tell the ship to repair the only thing that needs repairing. Also the controls are baffling. To set up repairs or transporters or scans or anything like that, You have to hold a button down, for a few seconds to bring up the option, but warping is one button. So I couldn't tell you how many times I was trying to battle and I accidentally warped away only to turn my slug of a ship around and make my way slowly back. Some of the reviews on here are good, but not great, so I thought that the game would be good not great. I love star trek so I was willing to work within the frustrations of the game, but could still find no fun in this game to speak of. Screw this I am going back to play Fallout 3!
Star Trek Legacy XBox 360 May 30, 2010 R. Smith Very good game. Easy to learn. Recommend this game to all the star trek lovers out there
Get your Star trek fix November 9, 2009 B. Deans 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I waited a long time to buy this game. I like many others read most of the reviews and was set back from paying top dollar for the game. Now something i wouldnt agree with is paying 60 for this game when it first came out, but being able to get it for 20 is a great buy. This game has all the ships you would expect in the new updated xbox graphics. The game is beautifully displayed with great visuals of explosions weaponfire and objects. It adds a great ammount of detail and emersive gameplay to keep you entertained. The ship variations are stunning from the first enterprise all the way up to the enterprise E. Skirimish allows you to play with all the sub races from borg klingon and cardassian. (nothing like using a borg tactical cube to wreck havoc)
Pro
-Loads of ships to play with new and old classics
-Graphics are amazing
-Story is entertaining and is pretty straight forward
-Controls are very easy to work and runs smooth
-Can controll 4 ships at once rather than the typical one
-Adding things like in game repairs and capture of structures stays true
-Ships show scars of damage (can loose warp boosters and have reduced speed)
-Ability to target subsystems in ships
-You can run away from battles and repair then come back again at full
Con
-Missions are very long with no save points dont fail a mission or your screwed
-Story is not believable at all and in no way goes with the series (still fun)
-Units sometimes dont shoot when you tell them to and will sit there and watch you die
-Ships that you buy in the beginning have 0 use at the end of the game so save your money
-Enemies dont chase you at warp if you run away. They follow at impulse which allows you plenty of time to run away repair and go back.
Star Trek Legacy for Xbox 360 review July 18, 2009 Anthus S. Barlow (San Diego, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The other reviews I read about this game were really accurate, the controls for Xbox 360 were probably a lot better than the PC version but still a little frustrating at times but the battles really made up for the small frustrating things about the game like how the fourth ship under your control won't attack what you tell it but the others will. I actually wished the game was longer and that the versus scenarios had more options. All around though, the storyline and battles made up for the few downfalls.
If You're A Hardcore Star Trek Fan... July 2, 2009 JP (Tampa, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
... you'll like this game. Granted it's not the best game in the world, but the graphics are alright. Most of the voice acting is good. Shatner seems to be half awake though. From a gamer perspective I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. From a Star Trek fan perspective, I would. It's alright, has it's faults, but it's alright.
