Product Description
The first project for Kaos Studios (a division of THQ founded by veterans of Trauma Studios creators of Desert Combat and Battlefield 2 R&D projects) Frontlines: Fuel of War uses the advanced Unreal 3 engine for futuristic intense fights in an open-world battlefield. In this all-too-bleak future of constant wars over natural resources two sides compete for global supremacy: the Western Coalition (the United States and the European Union) and the Red Star Alliance (Russian/People's Republic of China). The game's nonlinear single-player campaign has players advancing their side's frontline into enemy territory. 4 out of 5 stars Frontlines Fuel of War: Campaign Loadout   May 18, 2010
D. Pacella (NY state)
This game is a lot of fun. I play the campaign whenever I need to kill time. My only problem: I can kill the campaign with maybe 2-3 hours of gameplay. It isnt that long, but if you can find a way, it can be really long.

PROS:

-FUN REMOTE CONTROLLED MACHINES
This option comes out early in the campaign. You are able to control basically a surveillance/flying mine mini helicopter, a decent sized mini tank with a machine gun so big it can destroy cover in just a few shots, and a mini attack helicopter with rockets that can take down a tank with 2 volleys.

-GOOD WEAPONS
The actual weapons in the game are pretty sweet, my personal favorite is the support gunner, with a 200 round mag. The sniper rifle is pretty nice, but it takes 2 hits in the body to kill, one in the head obviously.

-VEHICLES
They don't give you a lot: Just a rapid fire, low power tank, an actual tank, and a helicopter. You can commandeer a russian tank, but thats about it. But in the multiplayer, it all opens up to a wider spectrum of vehicles.

-GAMEPLAY
The story is epic. Its also simple: The Russians and Chinese vs The U.S. and most of Europe battling for control of the oil industry.
My personal favorite mission is the Mountain King.

-TURRETS
When they do provide you with a turret or a fixed gun, its always in a good spot, or they just give you one that you can set up. In the one mission you get a set minigun and a type of Lazer that can kill a tank in 2 shots or even one if you hit it from the back.

CONS

-AI FRIENDLIES
The friendly AI are of a seriously lower power than you. It takes them 2 mags on the normal assault rifle to kill one enemy.

-LIMITED AMOUNT OF CLASSES
In the campaign ( this entire review is about the campaign) you can only use certain classes in certain missions, like in the end mission, you can only use Sniper, Anti-Vehicle and Assault, and trust me, you can really use the support class in that one.

-FAIL FRIENDLY AI SENTRIES
You at one point in the end of the game get 2 AI sentries to set up to help you. They dont even shoot half the time.
It takes them 10 seconds to realize that there is an enemy in front of them, meanwhile enemy sentries shoot as soon as you are in range ( 1 seconds recognition delay) but at least they make a great wall of metal if you are ever in a tight spot, I line them up and go prone and shoot in the gaps between them.

OVERALL

A great game to kill time with the campaign. I can't say anything about multiplayer except that your options really open up then, because your teammates actually do damage. It is also a great game to hone your FPS skills, as you are in many situations the only one fighting the enemy while others just run around and shoot blindly. Its really a game for beginner FPS players and anyone looking for a fun, easy game to just plug a couple rounds into the enemy. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the friendly AI are really bad and the limited amount of vehicles. IN CONCLUSION, it is a great game that really shows its potential in the multiplayer arena.

2 out of 5 stars not worth it at anyprice   February 5, 2010

The game had some potential but was defeated by poor graphics, silly gameplay, difficult vehicle controls and an enemy that can make headshots while running at a mile away. Spend your money on better discount games.

it was maybe ok when it was released but now it is plain old bad...
Don't buy it, even for [...] bucks this would be wasting money!
There are plenty of much better shooters on the market, some of which will soon be in the platinum collection.

2 out of 5 stars Average At Best   October 25, 2009

Frontlines: Fuel of War isn't anything special as far as 1st person shooters go. I wouldn't put this game anywhere near the Call of Duty series, the Battlefield series, or even the Medal of Honor series. Therefore, if you own Modern Warfare 2 or Battlefield: Bad Company I suggest you stick to them for 1st person war shooters that have great single and multiplayer.

PROS:
-The weapons are nothing out of the ordinary. You have your pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, grenades, etc. Not bad, but nothing to get excited about.

-Lots of shooting, driving, and blowing stuff up.

CONS:
-A serious negative about this game is that hardly anyone plays online and even less on ranked. This makes it impossible to get the full experience of the game, not to mention the 300+ achievemant points you can only get from playing the multiplayer. Furthermore, the multiplayer is still no where near Halo 3 or Modern Warfare 2.

-Another negative that bothered me was that all the AI look exactly the same in the campaign which made the game have an Xbox or PS2 feel.

-The vehicle control is also garbage, probably some of the most clunky controls I've ever come across. You'll notice this especially when you play the missions where half of it is you driving a tank or another type of army vehicle and you have to destroy a group of tanks as well as avoid getting blown up by a bunch of footsoldiers firing rocket launchers.

-Not to mention, Frontlines is only 7 short, frustrating levels.

-The storyline is pretty boring and unrealistic. After a short time I just started skipping the cut scenes because I had no idea what was going on. The plot was something along the lines of all the countries are fighting in World War 3 over the remaining supply of oil in the world, with the addition of nuclear threats and terrorist attacks.
