5 out of 5 stars Deserving of a 4.5   July 19, 2008
J. Greenfieldt (nowhere)
Army of Two was a title that I heard about and didn't pay much attention to, until today. I bought this game today and was surprised at how much fun the mindlessness is. This is an fairly linear shooter that giver hours of fun just killing people. It's all that boring when you get buy and customize guns to turn them into the ultimate killing machines. The point of this is to earn money by killing terrorists all over the world in countries like Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, on an aircraft carrier near the Philippines, China, and Miami. You then can spend your money on guns. But that is not the whole point of the game, there is a story. You can choose to be one of two contractors, either Tyson Rios or Elliot Salem. You go around the world killing people for the CCS. Along the way you meet some characters like Clyde (don't remember his full name) and Murray (don't remember her full name either). You end up with a story twist which is not a huge one but it is a good one. The game is rather linear and tedious though. You pretty much run and gun and run and gun some more. It is still pretty fun to kill people though with jacked up guns and the aggro part of the game. Aggro is when you or your partner draw all the attention and gun fire of the enemies so the other person can flank the enemy. This is helpful when you are up against turrets and heavily armored enemies. The action is similar to Gears of War (awesome game) with a similar aiming system and with heavy armor your character looks like a Gear. The game is short though with only 6 missions.
Even with those cons the game is still fun as hell and a great choice for when you just want to blow people away with jacked-up guns and have some fun. I would get this for some violent fun.

4 out of 5 stars Well done two player game.   July 9, 2008

The graphics don't feel as polished as they are in Gears of War but the game play seems to be more fluid. You can easily flow between cover and the weapon upgrades let you personalize a standard weapon to fit you/your teamates playing style(s). The AI does a great job and you can depend on the computer fighting through the levels with you. Overall I think they did a great job with the multiplayer aspect and it is definetly worth the money. In the future maybe they can improve on the game by adding more coop players. Amry of Two Squared maybe?

4 out of 5 stars Great co-op game   July 5, 2008

My husband and I are always looking for games that work well co-op so that we can enjoy playing together and this game was perfect. I love the fact that you can't do it alone. You either have a partner to play with or you use the a.i. partner, either way it's all about team work. Great game!

5 out of 5 stars Army of Two is a Great Game   March 8, 2008

My review only applies to the single-player part of the game. I love this game. This is one of the best games to come out so far this year for any platform. If you love shooters, you'll love this game. This is a very well made and thought out game. Also the graphics are very good in this game.

The game takes place in different hot spots throughout recent history. You play the first mission in Somalia in 1993 to take out a Somali warlord. Then you go to Afghanistan in 2001 to take out an Al Qaeda warlord who uses chemical weapons against his enemies. Then it's off to Iraq to fight the Iraqis in 2003. Then from Iraq, you go onboard a U.S. aircraft carrier in 2008 to fight terrorists who have gained control of the ship. Then it's off to China to fight the terrorist mastermind who commanded the terrorists who took over the U.S. aircraft carrier. Finally, the last mission takes place in Miami, Florida where you fight terrorists while a category five hurricane bears down on you.

You play as a war-hardened mercenary with a partner throughout the game. You can play either as a mercenary named Tyson Rios or as one named Elliot Salem. You work for a private corporation who handles security detail throughout the hotspots of the world. You get paid a large sum of money everytime you do something special in a mission. With that money, you can customize and upgrade your weapons, face masks, and body armor throughout the game. (This reminds me a lot of the contractors who work over in Iraq who get paid a lot more money than regular military would ever get paid. I was thinking of the Blackwater Corporation as a good example. Of course, I think those private security detail guys deserve every penny they get. They are usually protecting high profile individuals in Iraq. Those are very tough assignments.)

This game reminds alot of Soldier of Fortune: Payback. In that game, you play a mercenary, just like you do in this game, who is fighting terrorists around the world. You can customize and upgrade your weapons in Soldier of Fortune: Payback just like you can in Army of Two. The only real difference is you're fighting with a partner in Army of Two where in Soldier of Fortune: Payback you mainly fight by yourself throughout the game. Also I think this game is a lot more fun than Soldier of Fortune: Payback and the controls on my Xbox 360 controller are more easy to use. I also don't like in Soldier of Fortune: Payback where you have a constant crosshair in front of you all the time for your weapons. (When are game developers going to learn to give us a option to turn that crosshair on and off by now? Game developers, are you listening?)

This game is definitely a two man show. I can't tell how many times I got wounded and my partner dragged me off to safety to heal me. Or when I came to a cliff or a wall where I needed to climb up and my partner actually helped me climb up. Then there was times we parchuted together and one person guides the parchute while the other person shoots at the enemy below. Or about when we are both totally surrounded by enemy soldiers and me and my partner go back to back blasting away in a circle at all the enemy soldiers around us. Then there is the hovercraft that you use in the water to get around in. You have one person drives the hovercraft and the other person blasts away with a machine gun at everything that moves.

I'm telling you, this game is fun. I definitely plan to go back and play through the single-player campaign again. This game is worth the $60.00 I paid for it.
