Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Understated, sublimely functional industrial design. Unsurpassed performance and ease of use. From its flat, protective iPod cradle and smart RF remote to its arching stainless-steel handle, this is the portable loudspeaker dock that only Harman Kardon could build. Harman Kardon Go + Play delivers tight, thunderous bass from high-excursion low-frequency drivers. Just as important, the highs are distinct and crystal clear. Go + Play is AC- or battery-operated, so it will go anywhere your iPod or other music player goes - and make your favorite music sound better when it arrives. And as a multimedia entertainment center, it even sends your iPod photos and video to a TV monitor. But however and wherever you use it, it's the sound that sets Go + Play apart.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the wait   December 26, 2008
David L. Sarkissian (Md.USA)
I purchased this after researching and listening to many other systems. A great Christmas gift for the wife and I. The depth and richness of the sound is un-matched. The bass has a deep rumble that when turned up can be felt throughout the room and into the ajoining rooms without distortion. The hi-notes are crisp and well defined. The volume could be a bit stronger.
The RF Remote makes for easier control and track change.
The design is quite eye catching, some what retro yet very functional. The weight and feel of the unit are both comforting and sturdy. With so much bass coming out from this unit, the casing has to be sturdy and well built.
It does seem that Harmon Kardon has set the standard, I would dare any other manufacturer to better this piece. Not just in sound, but in build, style and design. Great piece, for a up scale price.
The only negative is that I had to wait so long for a unit this good and listen to so many sub-par systems before I found this one.

5 out of 5 stars This player dominates!!!!   December 26, 2008

OK, after much research and contemplation, I decided on this IPOD portable for my fiance. Not only does it blow away the competition with its clarity and bass, but it plays BLACK metal so well, you can hear every kick and hammer of the bass drum at even the lowest volume. Even while sitting in the next room. We are listening to it right now and are pretty much speechless.

My favorite features of this player are in this order:

-DEEP bass and undistorted sound at ALL volumes.
-PORTABLE...and this thing is tough as nails. You can take it anywhere...camping, etc, and you'll not only have the sound you love but a tough exterior to protect it.
-It uses REGULAR batteries...not a rechargeable. To me, this is a plus because rechargeable batteries are difficult to replace.
-It is PLUG and PLAY...literally. Plug it in, put in your IPOD, and it's ready to play. No complications.
-It charges the IPOD while it's plugged in. How awesome is that? It won't do it if you are using batteries only, but that is a given.
-You can connect this to your TV, stereo, computer..basically any other system and have this awesome sound.
-THE REMOTE- it truly does work from room to room. Don't want to get up to change the song? No problem. Just use the remote from another room and change it to whatever you like. No other system I've looked for has this feature (RF remote).

Don't let the small size and portability fool you. These features only enhance the item. If you are thinking about an Altec Lansing or even a BOSE system, think about this one. This blows them out of the water.

3 out of 5 stars Cool boombox but..... I will have to re-rip all my CDs into lossless coding   November 24, 2008

I am no audiophile. But when I heard the Go+Play at a local store, I was blown away! It looked different and sounded exceptional.

So, I lusted after one...until I recently bought it.
____________________
Background: My music has been ripped from CDs and bought online at different bit rates (128 - 320 KBPS). Predominantly, the MP3s have been ripped at 128 KBPS. I play it on the latest Nano docked to the Go+Play.
____________________

The bad...

Most mp3s at the 128 KBPS bit rate sound unnaturally harsh on this device. It is near impossible to raise the volume level without your ears feeling the pain from the lack of quality. In contrast, the Athena iVoice (I own as well) is easier on the ear and does not boom the bass out or accentuate the treble the way the Go+Play does. Harman Kardon has not designed it to be forgiving....
Adjusting the IPOD equalizer was useful for certain songs (to correct for the treble and base) but overall did not serve the purpose as it required too much tinkering for each song and I just want to put it on the dock and forget about it...
Another issue is that the system does not charge the new IPODs.
The lousiest manual that can be found on this planet.

The good....
It is loud...it fills the room. You cannot use it at its peak volume without upsetting the neighbors (especially if they share a wall with you).
RF remote that is not direction sensitive....
Nice handle to carry it. The handle feels solid and it is easy to walk this device around.
The dock is very secure. You can rest assured that the ipod will remain safe as you carry the dock around.
The power adapter can convert 100V-240V into the required 18V and so, it can be used anywhere in the world.

The excellent....
If you rip CDs using the Apple lossless coding, ths sounds are significantly different. This boombox is designed for CD quality songs....
The distortion free response and clarity.....I can hear sounds on the Go+Play that I cannot on the Athena iVoice which is a bit more muddled.
Stereo separation...this sounds more like a stereo system than an IPOD dock!

5 out of 5 stars Great customer service   November 18, 2008
letters in pencil
I have bought my HK Go+Play when it came out - early 2007 I think - and I really like it. Maybe with the reserve, as people here have mentioned, concerning the inserts/position of the ipod dock.

One thing I'd like to mention though is their customer service. I update my ipods regularly, and the inserts that came with the HK didn't fit the new Nanos. I wrote to HK asking where I could buy those.. and they asked for my address so they could send me the new inserts.. FREE of charge!

This is great service. I will recommend HK any time.

5 out of 5 stars Everything you thought Bose would be, and more   November 7, 2008
Scott Eldridge (Pinole, CA USA)
The sound is incredible, staying clean throughout all volume levels. At the upper volume levels, I can listen to it throughout my house. And since the remote control is RF (not IR), I can actually control both the iPod and the player from wherever I am.

This deserves six stars!
