| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Forged flatware features superb pattern definition, heavy gauge pieces with a sturdy feel, and in the case of this pattern, generous sizing. Garnet is a contemporary design that features both polished and frosted finishes, as well as an interesting sculpted treatment at the tip of each piece.
Amazon.com Review The Satin Garnet flatware from Oneida combines luxurious weight with a sleek, elegant styling and excellent definition. The handles feature a rounded flourish at the end complemented by an eye-catching arc in profile and gleaming working ends. An inset satin-finish accent completes the effect. Generously oversized after the European fashion, the Satin Garnet pieces are substantial in the hand without clumsiness. Oneida forges them from high-quality stainless steel with 18 percent chrome for maximum corrosion-resistance and 10 percent nickel for a silver-like luster. This 65-piece set includes place settings for 12, each with a 9-1/2-inch place knife, 8-inch place fork, 7-inch place spoon, 7-inch salad fork, and 6-1/4-inch teaspoon. The serving pieces include a butter knife, sugar spoon, serving fork, serving spoon, and pierced serving spoon. Oneida nestles the set in a wooden caddy with smooth beveled edges. Backed by a lifetime warranty, the flatware never needs polishing and is safe for the dishwasher. --Emily Bedard What's in the Box 12 place settings, 5 serving pieces. This is my 2nd set January 6, 2009 G. Miller (Atlanta) I originally bought this set about 5 years ago and it has been a good durable set to use. I bought this second set because we were missing some pieces from the first set (possibly thrown out by accident) and we needed more pieces since we were hosting the Thanksgiving dinner this year for 11 people. We still use the first set for our small family, but know we have a backup set to use in the near future. The only thing I have noticed on the set is that 2 or 3 knives have developed spots on them, but it doesn't keep us from using them. All flatwear has gone in the dishwasher and is never washed by hand. A good set if you can get it for $100 or less.
nice set, but not perfect September 10, 2008 Browneyedgurl (Illinois/ Land of corn) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really wanted to love this set. We were ready to get a nice flatware set that could serve 12, so we could discard our old hand me down unmatched set. The Satin Garnet is beautiful. Both shiny, and matte(handles only) They look classic, yet modern. These pieces are substantial. They are heavy, and large. But that does not bother us at all. I wanted the 18/10 because its suppossed to be better quality. However, after putting in the dishwasher the first time, some of the pieces (mostly knives) had what look like rust marks on them. I tried polishing it off, and some of it comes off and some of it will not. My husband thinks it may be from our hard water. But our old banged up set never had these marks on them from the dishwasher. I did not return them, but plan to use Oneida's lifetime warranty and send the pieces with spots back to them for replacement. I am hoping thier lifetime policy is as good as Calphalon's with little hassle. I paid $120 with free shipping for this set, and I dont think I would recommend paying that for these because of the spots.
Too heavy for us! August 15, 2008 Alaskan/Californian (Northern California, previously Alaska) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Whoa, this is one heavy set of silverware! I do like substantial silverware, but this is overkill. Quality okay for price. Returned our set.
Very Pleased May 17, 2008 Tava Riley (Grass Valley, Ca. USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just purchased the Satin Garnet flatware set. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I shopped around ALOT before making my final decision. The set is everything I hoped for. They are heavy- but not too heavy. They have high shine and a beautiful "brushed" finished on the handles. Everytime I pull out a piece to use, I smile. Amazon also had the best price, (especially the free shipping). I would have paid about $60 more at the Dept. stores.
Poor workmanship - not recommended May 4, 2008 G. Rennie 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We started using this set in January 2008. Upon openning the box, at least ten pieces had pitting or defective surface. The box said the flatware was disherwasher safe, but within two washes some pieces started getting marks and rust. Has only gotten worse. Pattern is nice and wooden caddy is handy, but this flatware has underperformed and disappointed compared to my old $40 entry-level Oneida set which lasted for over six years without any marks.
