Making ice tea in a natural way may not be as fast as opening a bag of powder and mixing it with water, but if you are conscious about what you fill your body with, the Bodum Ceylon Ice Tea Maker is a true, relatively simple to use, alternative. Add your preferred tea leaves into the filter. Pour 3 to 4 oz of boiling water over the leaves, and fill the jug with cold water from the tap. Close the lid, and leave the tea jug in the fridge overnight. The next morning you will have a tasty iced tea. If you want it really cold pour the tea into glasses filled with ice. The SAN plastic tea maker holds 50 oz and will fit in most fridge door shelves. Dishwasher safe.

Looking like a popular filtered water pitcher, the slim, oval-shaped Ceylon features a straining lid, sturdy handle, and, most importantly, a removable infuser that holds loose or bagged tea, as well as fruit or vegetable slices for making infused water or wine. Because the plastic pitcher is transparent, contents and strength are quickly viewed. The Ceylon holds approximately 50 ounces (1.7 liters) and is designed to fit compactly into a refrigerator shelf or door. To brew iced tea, Bodum recommends placing seven tablespoons of loose tea into the infuser, then filling halfway with nearly-boiling water. After steeping for three to five minutes, remove the infuser to stop the brewing process. Fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water or ice cubes. Or, add only cold water to the same amount of loose tea, and brew in the refrigerator for 12 hours. To make infused water (or wine, for sangria), place slices of lemon, lime, cucumber, strawberries, fresh peeled ginger, or even sprigs of lavender into the infusing chamber, fill with ice cubes and cold water, and serve after approximately five minutes. Easy to use and resulting in healthy drinks, the Ceylon is made of SAN plastic that will not absorb odors or colors.  Good product but wish it was made with a different plastic October 15, 2008

This iced tea maker would have been perfect, but when it arrived I looked at what plastic it was made of and saw it was a #7 which I'm trying to avoid because of concerns about BPA. Bodum does say on their website that most of their products do not contain BPA - http://www.bodumusa.com/shop/pdf/BodumPC-BPAStatement(May2008).pdf, including the items they make that are labeled with a 7. So I suspect this product is fine, but the whole issue is pretty complicated so I chose to return it. I would be thrilled if Bodum would make this product with a different plastic because despite their statement, #7 plastics are getting a bad rap these days, so it would be a good move to just stay away from it. Even better, make it in glass!

Not for loose leaf teas July 8, 2008

While the infuser makes it easy to remove teabags from the pitcher after brewing, it is NOT suitable for loose leaf teas! The holes are too large and allow leaves to pass through and into the main chamber of the pitcher. Other users mention "a few floaters" and simply needing to be careful with the last sip, but I ended up with a TON of them. They are even more problematic if you do not finish the tea within the hour; the remaining leaf bits continue to impart tannins and a more bitter flavor. If you want to brew loose leaf teas, I suggest using a french press and then pouring THAT into another pitcher and adding any desired sweetener and ice.

Just the right size for many glasses of tea. I put the ice in the glasses and then fill from the pitcher. Nice looking design and fits into the refrigerator easily

Pitcher works just like instructions say. I put my tea bags in and let the sun do the rest. Tea quality depends on type of tea used. Hand washing is a pain but not so much as to prevent me from using the pitcher.
