Must have lens the for Nikon DX format cameras March 7, 2010 John Ingraham This lens is a great normal lens for DX format cameras.
Given that is almost 4 stops better than the 18-55mm kit lens, there is really no need for VR.
Plus the Bokeh (background blur) is excellent for portrait work.
The ability to manually focus the lens even in AF mode is also an attractive feature.
The Autofocus is super quiet and very responsive
Highly recommended!
Amazing buy...warranty exists!! March 5, 2010 Deepanshu Shukla (Singapore, Singapore, SG) This is an amazing product. Almost a must have. Took this lens with me when i visited my parents and it was the only lens i ever used throughout the holiday. Even night shots are very good. Although as with any prime, you have to walk around for the composition u want.
This product came with 5years US warranty and 1 year international warranty valid at any nikon service center. This important details is missing in the product detail.
Overall very happy with amazon shipping, delivered nicely packed and on time.
Well constructed prime lens March 3, 2010 Nils Lorvick (Farmington, MN USA) I was going back and forth with the Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens. I ended up with this one, mainly because I have a D5000 that doesn't have the autofocus motor. I was not disappointed with my choice. Since I've gotten the lens, I've rarely taken it off of the camera. There have been some times where the 50mm wouldn't have worked for the shot I was composing.
The image quality is surprising for a lens this inexpensive. The autofocus motor is nice and quiet, and fast.
Anyone looking for a good, inexpensive prime lens for their D40/60/3000/5000, this is for sure the way to go.
Great overall lens March 2, 2010 Jon Delano (Boston, MA) For the price of this lens you can't go wrong. I bought this for shooting portraits and I'll have to say that I'm pretty impressed. Good overall quality and the focus isn't bad at all! Great for low light shooting.
best lens for the price. March 1, 2010 Flying Saucer This is to DX what the nikon 50mm f/1.8 af-d was to film camera. Best bang for the buck lens you can get. I bought this for my mother-in-law. I prefer my siggy dirty thirty, but this isn't bad. Almost better in some aspects such as closer focusing distance.
